At Maple Music Studios, Alex Albertson is primarily a percussion educator of all ages and ability levels. His core belief is that all students are capable of achieving excellence through steadfast dedication to hard work. However, he is also a huge believer in students having a fun, positive, and rewarding experience while improving on their instrument. As a former band director, he is also thrilled to teach any band instrument through the high school level. Students enrolled in lessons from Alex have gone on to earn multiple positions with the Iowa All-State Band and Orchestra, perform with Drum Corps International and Winter Guard International Ensembles, and earn scholarships at colleges throughout the nation.
Alex has been privileged to direct and design for Railmen Indoor Percussion, leading the group to a 4th place finish in 2018 and a silver medal finish at the 2019 WGI World Championships. He spent 2012 through 2021 working as an educator, music arranger, and lead show designer for the Colt Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. These ensembles further support his fundamental belief in helping entry-level students learn the life lessons of hard work through music performance.
Previously, Alex served as a music teacher at Logan-Magnolia Community Schools in Logan, Iowa. His responsibilities included teaching the fifth grade, sixth grade, junior high, and high school concert bands, as well as the Panther Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Pep Band. During his time at Logan-Magnolia, the band program earned numerous first-time accolades. These include placing in the top 8 at the Iowa Jazz Championships from 2019 through 2024, earning Division 1 ratings in marching and concert band from 2019 through 2024, and being selected to perform for the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in 2020. Alex is most proud of being able to help expand the LM music teaching staff in 2021 due to more than tripling the student enrollment of the band program.
Alex earned his Bachelor's degree in music education from Western Illinois University. During his time there, he was named a winner of the annual WIU School of Music Concerto/Composition Competition, where he performed with the university's orchestra. He was an avid fan and member of WIU’s Steel Band every semester, touring to various Illinois grade schools. He is also proud to be an alumnus of the Colts Drum & Bugle Corps and Rhythm X Indoor Percussion.
